Product modeling:
Obviously, it is important to have accurate modeling of the product. Other than hard surface modeling all the products, I also created custom UV maps for each of them.

LET'S DIVE INTO THE PROCESS!

INITIAL STORYBOARD

My main task for this project was to create the opener and the ACT I animations. Here are my initial storyboards for the sequence.

Our challenge was to create something that draws focus to the garments while still having its own personality and charm. To approach this challenge, we referenced different theatrical environments and incorporated different types of solid black frames into each visual (except for the idle visuals).

The goal was to create a “transformational” screen while working with a long rectangular display. This decision not only gave us more flexibility to shift between different shapes, but also helped create a more magical and immersive theatrical experience for the audience.

TESTING TESTING TESTING

After the first round of rendering,
we spent around two weeks running countless tests to make sure the 30 mins animation played properly from start to finish, while also catching
and fixing any small mistakes along the way.( The screen is massive irl!)

Genesis Fashion Show is a student-led fashion show held annually at Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, FL.
The show envisions a world where the fashion industry embraces sustainable practices and celebrates diversity in all its forms.

Feel free to learn more about the show via the official website:

In past years, the production scale of Genesis has consistently expanded. While animated visual elements were slightly integrated into Genesis 2025, the Genesis core team decided to fully integrate animated show graphics into the set design this year, further enhancing the storytelling of the show while also complementing the fashion pieces being showcased.

RESEARCH

SHOW THEME

WOVEN IN TIME

The show delves into the core conflicts of human existence,
balancing internal struggles of identity and purpose with
external pressures from societal roles.

The show is divided into three acts, with completely different colors, tones, and lightings, the garments are separately representing different fates.

The motion team is in charge of creating all the visuals that bring the atmosphere of the acts to life.

INITIAL C4D RENDER

ACT I represents Birth, which we envisioned as a fresh grass field at dawn,
with a soft, slightly foggy atmosphere.

POST PRODUCTION

As the theme of the show leaned heavily into a fine art-inspired expression, our team decided to take a painterly approach.

We also toned down the saturation and adjusted the tint of the render in After Effects to better match the actual set design, which featured dried weeds and sand along the walkway. This helped the visuals feel more cohesive with the physical environment of the show.

Other than stylistic edits, we also choose to create a looping sky animation within AE to limit the rendering time.
The painterly effect is created with AKVIS OilPaint Video.

SHOW DAY!

Everyone was so excited for show day! Seeing our animations come to life on such a big screen alongside the models and garments was truly magical. It was a bittersweet moment, as we had faced countless rendering challenges and all sorts of technical issues you can imagine along the way. But when the show came to an end,
we were incredibly proud of ourselves for pulling it all off.
